Something for the weekend

SFTW: doughnuts and beauty buys

February 28, 2016

I have this thing for doughnuts. I’m not sure why, possibly because it seems so hard to get a really good one in the UK. Anyway on one of my daily (hourly?) Pinterest trawls, I came across this recipe (see drool-worthy picture below) and decided I had to give it a go. Now, I’m no stranger to long, involved recipes, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided it would be a better use of my time to schlep across the capital for St. John’s version (arguably the best in London).

So yesterday morning, George, Thomas and I headed off to Maltby Street for our fix. Strange how the promise of doughnuts can elicit perfect behaviour from a toddler… Last time I went to Maltby St, it was lunchtime and rammed, so I wanted to get there as early as possible. It turns out that hipsters like a lie-in, so it was very quiet when we arrived and we got a table for two and devoured our doughnuts. We shared the chocolate and vanilla versions, and oh my… totes worth all the effort. Of course, it’s only served to feed my obsession, and I think I may now have to order a doughnut pan to make the baked version at home.

Other than dreaming of doughnuts, I’ve also been flexing my Boots Advantage Card and made a few beauty buys that I wanted to share here.

First up is this L’Oreal mascara – it’s a ‘tube’ mascara, I’m not entirely sure what that is, but crucially it washes off really easily with just water (beware: it kind of looks like mascara goop as it washes off).  Am I the only person who can never get all my mascara off? I wash my face thoroughly with a flannel every night, but I still end with black rings in the morning.

Next is the Olay Complete Everyday Sunshine moisturiser . Sali Hughes recommended it as a lovely moisturiser with a little fake tan. Unlike Nicky, I’ve long been a fake-tan fan, but I can never be bothered to apply it any more, so this moisturiser is perfect. (Bonus: I added mine to my weekly Tesco online order).

Finally, another Sali Hughes recommendation, the No7 Instant Radiance foundation, which so far I’m loving and have been applying with the Real Techniques sponge (thanks for the tip Rose!).

Pete is taking the boys on a play date this morning, so I’m hoping to go for a run and then actually use some of the beauty products gathering dust in my bathroom, including a face mask or even body lotion. I know… I’m wild!

Here’s hoping your Sunday involves doughnuts – and if not, then at least some time to yourself!

P.S. The easiest brunch pancakes, cold brew coffee and a sausage stew.
