How to buy bikinis for big boobs

June 9, 2015

I’ve got big boobs and finding a bikini has always been a nightmare. There are so many nice, cheap bikinis on the high street (I particularly like Primark’s holiday wear) but when it comes to the tops, I can just about squeeze my boobs into a size 18 – and then the back is far too big.

Before I addressed the issue, I’d try to squeeze myself into something that was not only unflattering, but left me feeling uncomfortable all day. I’d end up in a halter neck that was tied really tight around my neck in an effort to hold up my boobs, but that inevitably just left a big red mark on my neck. Failing that, I’d settle for something that was just a bit too small and spend the day constantly adjusting it.

A few years ago, I gave in and started getting properly fitting bikinis from Bravissimo. What a difference! Suddenly I had a bikini top that was supportive and so comfortable. Not only that, but a well-fitted top makes you look slimmer, too, because your boobs are lifted and show off the smallest part of your waist. In fact, these tops are so supportive that I can even take down the straps to get an even tan without worrying about everything falling out. If there’s a Bravissimo near you, then I really recommend getting your bikini properly fitted. I love the Bravissimo fitters – they really know what they’re talking about and they’re usually not afraid to tell you if a style really isn’t working for you.

Granted, they can be a bit pricey, but I just accept that I’ll only take one bikini on holiday, and I often just buy the bikini top and wear it with a cheaper pair of black bikini bottoms, to save money. Another tip I’ve learnt the hard way is that anything tight in the bikini department is not your friend, even if it means wears a size bigger than usual. You want the bikini to fit but not dig in in any way -believe me, this is the most flattering way to wear a bikini.

I’ve rounded up a couple of my favourite bikinis below (and a swimsuit because it’s so gorgeous!):
