A spring capsule wardrobe for mums

April 14, 2016

As the end of my first capsule approached, I started thinking about my Spring capsule. The weather isn’t likely to change too drastically over the next few months (although we can always hope!), so it’s not like I’ll need lots of different clothes, but I wanted to change things up enough to make sure I don’t get bored.

Even though I only had a teeny capsule wardrobe to begin with, there were still a few items that I didn’t wear – it turns out that the pleather skirt doesn’t really suit my lifestyle at the moment – so I’ve taken them out and dug my denim jacket out of storage for when it gets warmer. I always used to laugh at Nicky for storing her ‘Winter’ clothes under the bed during Summer – I never really saw the point – but I’m coming round to the idea now: bringing things out of storage almost feels like you’ve bought something new and it also means that the only clothes hanging in my wardrobe are ones I can legitimately wear.

Of course, my three month shopping ban also meant that I was itching to do a little shopping! Here’s what I bought:

Pointy pumps: I’ve seen this style of shoe all over Pinterest, so when I spotted these in the H&M catalogue (they post me the catalogue because I order from them online and even though it’s a bit old school, I love reading it!), I had to get some.

Orange pumps: I suppose these are quite similar to the other pointy pumps, but I love the colour and they’re a bit smarter, so good for the rare occasions that I actually go out in the evening.

White T-shirt: Everyone needs a great white T-shirt. I decided to get a long-sleeved version so I didn’t have to worry about wearing it with another layer on top, as it’s unlikely to be T-shirt weather for a while.

Colour block jumper: I actually bought this up on a rare shopping trip – I think it’s a bit more interesting than all my other super-plain jumpers and tops.

Denim skirt: I know that button-through denim skirts are the thing for Spring, but all the ones I tried on just did not look right, so I compromised with this version. It’s great in that it’s denim so it goes with everything but makes a nice change to jeans.

Anyway, I’ve been living with my Spring wardrobe since the beginning of March and so far, I’m loving it! Even though it contains a lot of the same things from my Winter capsule, there are enough new things to keep me interested. At the risk of sounding like a tit, I feel like I’m slowly finding ‘my style’, and I’m hoping that each successive capsule wardrobe will feel a bit easier to put together. I still feel like I’d like to get more colour in there, as everything is very neutral and plain. And I’ve been obsessing over this beautiful silk shirt as the perfect smart/casual top, but haven’t (yet) bought it because I can’t quite get over (1) the price, and (2) the fact that it’s hand-wash only (ugh). But otherwise, I’m still loving the capsule wardrobe process.

Have I tempted you yet? What are you wearing for Spring?
P.S. Five mum outfits, five great ankle boots and Spring denim style.
