A great idea for a wedding present

June 4, 2015

When I attend the wedding of someone I’m really close to, I always find it a bit strange buying a gift from the wedding gift list – it feels impersonal somehow. I’ve managed to get around this with a couple of my close friends by making their wedding cakes (in fact, I made Nicky’s wedding cake and helped make her wedding favours), but last year I bought a great gift for some dear friends of mine who were getting married.

Isn’t this wedding illustration cute? (I got mine here, but I also like this one and this one and there are lots of other options on Etsy, too). I’m a big fan of having lots of pictures and prints hung on the walls and I think an illustration is a lovely way to remember your wedding day. It does mean you have to wait until after the day itself to give the gift as the illustrator will work from pictures of the day,  but I think it’s worth it. You can also have the illustration tailored to include all the important bits – for example, for my friends, I chose a great picture of them smiling just after the ceremony, but also sent along a full-length picture of the dress and one of the bouquet so these details could be included in enough detail.

Why stop at wedding presents? I’m thinking my mum would love an illustration of our extended family or how about an illustration of your house? (Nicky actually got me one of these for my 30th birthday and I love it!).

What do you think? Would you like this as a wedding present? What was the best present you received when you tied the knot?
