Something for the weekend

SFTW: The third trimester!

May 10, 2015

Rachel and George
Welcome to Sunday everyone! I can’t believe I’m actually  in the third trimester now –  29 weeks to be exact. That old cliché about second pregnancies going quickly seems to be true, at least in my case – the past 12 weeks have flown by. I’m under no illusions about the next 11 weeks though; I remember how much they dragged with George. This time we’re in no rush for the baby to arrive: every so often I realise that I’m actually going to have a newborn in a couple of months and it kind of freaks me out. We’re at such a good stage with George right now (toddler tantrums and unreasonableness aside) that he’s relatively easy to look after. He can play by himself quite well, he sleeps through the night and Pete and I are both able to get plenty of alone time. Throw a newborn into the mix and that’s all going to change, but it’s what we signed up for and I am looking forward to those baby snuggles.

Anyway, here’s the rest of my week in links:

The picture above is from a day trip we took to Richmond Park – we took our bikes on the train to Wimbledon and cycled to the park from there. Unfortunately, I didn’t bank on having to puff up several big hills with a toddler on the back of the bike! Surprisingly, it was OK – I find cycling when pregnant much more comfortable than walking for long distances, and it felt great to get some actual exercise. Anyway, I thoroughly recommend Richmond Park to anyone living in London: you can hire bikes to cycle round when you’re there, and there are a couple of playgrounds and – most importantly – cafés. You must go to the Isabella Plantation while you’re there, it’s just beautiful (see the gorgeous flowers in the pictures above), and there’s plenty for little kids to see too.

Do you ever get in the bath with your baby or toddler? I’ve always been a big fan, even more so now that I feel so achy at the end of the day. The hot water feels sooo good and I’ve been working my way through this very special bath crème, which was an excellent 30th birthday present.

I bought this lipstick the day after I saw it recommended on Vivianna Does Makeup and it really is the perfect daytime coral lipstick and a bargain at £6.99. Also, the first time I wore it, a stranger asked me where my lipstick was from, which is basically the dream. Or my dream at least… (think you can’t wear lipstick? Think again.)

Speaking of make-up, I’ve been experimenting with contouring after Rose’s post. How great does her skin look?

I’d been meaning to try Jamie Oliver’s recipe for ‘instant’ ice cream for ages. The idea is that you blend 50% frozen fruit and 50% yoghurt to a smooth ice cream. The other day, I finally tried it, and it’s delicious! Okay, it’s not quite as good as real ice cream, but it does hit the spot. This time, we used frozen mixed berries and I added some vanilla and a squeeze of honey. Next on my list to try is mango, pineapple and coconut yoghurt (maybe with a splash of rum?).

Rose has finally persuaded me to buy a trench coat; I’m mostly wearing super-casual ensembles these days, and a trench coat just makes an outfit look a bit more chic. I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of this one.

What did you think of Nicky’s post about being a better employee now that she’s a mum? I definitely agreed – I’m so much more productive now, partly because I want to get all my work done so that I can leave on time, but also because I value work so much more now as a chance to be me and not just George’s mum.

I made these oatmeal and raisin cookies with George the other day and they were delicious and really easy to prepare together (we substituted golden syrup for the agave). I think I overcooked them slightly, so they were a tad cakey, but I didn’t mind and neither did George.

Wow you have had a seriously busy week! I am with you on 2nd pregnancies going so much quicker than the first, and definitely make the most of your time as a family of 3 before your newborn arrives! By the way I love Richmond Park, I have relatives who live in that part of London and I have fab memories of visiting as a kid! Great post, thanks for linking with #MaternityMondays

You look so good! Second pregnancy really does go so much quicker. You have just reminded me of when I used to have baths with my eldest, to ease the aches and pains, we both enjoyed it 🙂 I am now expecting my third and with two little ones in the bath now, there is no room for mummy these days haha, never mind! Tips for getting through the third trimester, I would say get some naps in if you can and just enjoy your time together before baby comes, I have really fond memories of our time before my second came along, we had little trips out just us two or as a family and then chill out or nap in the afternoon, lots of ‘bonding time’ but also get some time to yourself when you can. For coping with two children I would say take each day as it comes, take any help that is offered and get out and about for some fresh air with the little ones, this always lifts our mood!
Looking forward to reading more of your posts 🙂 x

Thanks for the tips! I remember how important fresh air was George was little, so will be forcing myself out of the house when the next one comes too. Thankfully, it will be the summer!
