Something for the weekend

SFTW: My 30th birthday

Happy Sunday! Mine will be spent enjoying the last of being thoroughly spoilt for my birthday. In case you didn’t know, I turned 30 on Thursday (sometimes I think it’s better to have a birthday on a weekday as you get to stretch out the celebrations until the weekend). The gorgeous flowers above were from my parents – you can’t go wrong with flowers as a gift, can you? Here are some more 30th birthday ideas.

The day of my birthday was spent lunching with Rose and Nicky at Artusi (an excellent Italian on Bellenden Rd, in Peckham), cocktailing with Pete at the top of the Shard and dining at the lovely Pizarro on Bermondsey St.

But the main event was lunch at Le Gavroche – Michel Roux Jr’s two-Michelin-star restaurant in Mayfair – with my closest friends. They do the most incredible set lunch menu for £54. Okay, so that is a lot of money but it includes so much – amuse-bouches, three courses, petits fours, coffee, wine – basically the whole meal. It was incredible; I can’t recommend it enough for a special person and/or occasion. Make sure you book in advance though (and I’m talking three months or so here). I also think that half the experience with very posh restaurants is enjoying the kind of effortless service that you don’t even notice. Obviously, the food is very, very important to me, but we felt so comfortable at Le Gavroche that we spent nearly four hours there!

Anyway, here are a few links for your Sunday reading:

1. We’ll be eating leftover birthday cake today – and if you’re looking for a foolproof chocolate cake, then you need this recipe in your life (even if it is mine!).

2. For anyone looking to make a career out of blogging, or for those just curious about how it works, this is one of the best articles I’ve read.

3. Loving this Lego-inspired storage for George.

4. I treated myself to a bottle of this for my birthday. If Sali recommends it, then I know it’s good.

5. Anyone who spends time with young children will laugh out loud at this post by The (Mal)contented Mother about the weird world of In the Night Garden. While you’re there, have a good dig around her excellent blog.

Here on Everyday30, you’ve still got time to make these healthy pancakes, paint your nails dark like Rose (I’m painting mine navy tonight), and share Nicky’s love for the humble shopping trolley (something I totally get – we actually have the same one!).

Hello hello! And thanks for the link you’ve put here. Happy 30th too, it was mine last week and I’m still enjoying the flowers, left over cake and prosecco stores! Enjoy your Sunday. X

No problem! Am sad that the extended celebrations are coming to an end, but there is still some cake 🙂
